WORKSHOP: Windswept in the Gorse
22 March @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

This time we’re heading to The New Forest, Hampshire for a mostly monochrome take on this remote, windswept place where the clouds hang heavily and the ground is healing its scars from the annual burning of the heathland. We will be shooting our mesmerisingly beautiful model (pictured) amongst the heather and gorse, and hopefully some of the wild ponies – we might have to go looking for them, but probably not very far. With so little natural colour in the scene, going monochrome instead can really bring out the drama of the landscape as it allows for a lot more contrast in the editing. It’s not mandatory though – just a suggestion.

WHO IS IT FOR:
Anyone who would love to get a more cinematic and dramatic feel to their portraiture and want to learn a bit more about how to make good posing choices. If portraiture isn’t your thing, then the landscape itself and the wild ponies offer plenty to shoot. It is best to know how to use your camera in M (manual) mode and understand exposure – the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO, but it’s not essential as this knowledge develops over time. Grete will be on hand for tips and suggestions, some technical, some artistic. After all, if a photo doesn’t make you feel something, then all the technique in the world can’t make up for it.
WHAT TO BRING:
Camera, and a kit lens will work fine. Let’s go a bit wide this time to really capture all the detail and vastness of this desolate landscape that surrounds our model. Lens range between 17-50mm, but it’s up to you really. Tripod for landscape enthusiasts, but handheld works too.
Feel free to bring your own soft filters like Pro Mist or Cinebloom etc, but we also have them on hand for you to try. We will also provide some speedlights for Nikon, Canon and Sony.
WHERE:
New Forest, Hampshire – fairly close to Southampton. The precise location will be revealed once you have booked, and there is a train station right next to where we’ll be.
WANT TO STAY OVERNIGHT?
We realise travel to the New Forest and back in one day can be a lot, so we recommend staying overnight at the Beaulieu Hotel for around £120 per night, and it’s right next to a train station. This gives you the opportunity to explore the area at leisure and capture more of the ponies the next day.
Please get in touch if you need more info on this trip.
TICKETS:
£95. Only 6 spaces for this one so hurry up and book! We have a 2 bookings minimum for going ahead with the event. See our FAQ page for more info.
