SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Dream Forest
DESCRIPTION:Is she a dream? Is she real? Join us for an exciting GHJ EXPLORE portrait workshop in Epping Forest capturing the golden tones of the season. We will be working with a gorgeous red-haired model to create otherworldly\, hazy portraits while playing with diffusion filters and gobos to create a more softened look. It’s autumn and our model looks like a creation of the forest itself. The photo above is from a recent shoot by Grete\, and we will be aiming for the same look. \n\n\n\nWHO IS IT FOR:Anyone who would love to get a more cinematic and dramatic feel to their portraiture and want to learn a bit more about how to make good lighting choices. It is best to know how to use your camera in M (manual) mode and understand exposure – the relationship between shutterspeed\, aperture and ISO. If you are unsure of this\, then sign up for one of our exposure workshop first! \n\n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:Camera\, ideally prime lenses as they create softer bokeh (blurry bits behind the model)\, but a kit lens will also work fine. Lens range between 50-200mm.Feel free to bring your own soft filters like Pro Mist or Cinebloom etc\, but we also have them on hand for you to try. \n\n\n\nWHERE:Epping Forest\, Loughton Brook area. The precise location will be revaled once you have booked. \n\n\n\nTICKETS:£120. Only 6 spaces for this one so hurry up and book! No refunds offered but you can attend another similarly priced event instead at a later date. \n\n\n\nCONTACT / RSVP:Grete on 07885899908 grete@ghjstudio.com to register and book.Ian on ‭07775 933371‬ \n\n\n\nFUTURE EVENTS:Sign up to my NEWSLETTER to get notified about future GHJ EXPLORE workshops\, photo walks and photo trips around the UK and abroad.

SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Blue Winter
DESCRIPTION:It’s cold\, dark and misty in the forest in winter. Our timelessly stylish model Mona (in the photo above) is also a fully trained actress. She is ready to pose for us\, and we will create photos that look like they are straight out of a Scandi Noir drama. Or maybe a murder-mystery\, or a psychological thriller.\n\n\n\nJoin us for an exciting GHJ EXPLORE portrait workshop in Epping Forest. We have found the bleakest\, spookiest area of the forest where the trees look almost like alien beings\, and the only creatures we encounter are the deer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are going blue this time\, and we will show you how. Natual colours in a photo are sometimes just a bit too rooted in normality and don’t allow for our imagination to do any work. We will be working in daylight as it fades to dusk\, but aim for a blueish night time feel. We’ll even add a kiss of lighting here and there. It’s great fun stretching the creative possibilities of the camera itself\, rather than adding fancy effects while editing. \n\n\n\n\n\nWHO IS IT FOR:Anyone who would love to get a more cinematic and dramatic feel to their portraiture and want to learn a bit more about how to use your cameras’s White Balance (WB) settings to create dramatic\, moody looks. It is best to know how to use your camera in M (manual) mode and understand exposure – the relationship between shutter speed\, aperture and ISO\, but we can manage without too. The main thing is having curiosity to want to experiment and learn a little along the way. \n\n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:Camera\, ideally prime lenses as they create softer bokeh (blurry bits behind the model)\, but a kit lens will also work fine. Lens range between 35-140mm.If you own a flash/speedlight then please bring it! Coloured filters are also good\, but we can provide them. We have some extra speelights for Canon\, Nikon and Sony. Feel free to bring your own soft filters like Pro Mist or Cinebloom etc\, but we also have them on hand for you to try. \n\n\n\nWHERE:Epping Forest\, Jack’s Hill area. The precise location will be revaled once you have booked. \n\n\n\nTICKETS:£95.

SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Windswept in the Gorse
DESCRIPTION:This time we’re heading to The New Forest\, Hampshire for a mostly monochrome take on this remote\, windswept place where the clouds hang heavily and the ground is healing its scars from the annual burning of the heathland. We will be shooting our mesmerisingly beautiful model (pictured) amongst the heather and gorse\, and hopefully some of the wild ponies – we might have to go looking for them\, but probably not very far. With so little natural colour in the scene\, going monochrome instead can really bring out the drama of the landscape as it allows for a lot more contrast in the editing. It’s not mandatory though – just a suggestion. \n\n\n\nGrete is creating a visual dialogue between the gorse and her headdress\n\n\n\nIan’s not quite so monohrome take – gentle tones but plenty of cinematic drama\n\n\n\nWHO IS IT FOR:Anyone who would love to get a more cinematic and dramatic feel to their portraiture and want to learn a bit more about how to make good posing choices. If portraiture isn’t your thing\, then the landscape itself and the wild ponies offer plenty to shoot. It is best to know how to use your camera in M (manual) mode and understand exposure – the relationship between shutter speed\, aperture and ISO\, but it’s not essential as this knowledge develops over time. Grete will be on hand for tips and suggestions\, some technical\, some artistic. After all\, if a photo doesn’t make you feel something\, then all the technique in the world can’t make up for it. \n\n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:Camera\, and a kit lens will work fine. Let’s go a bit wide this time to really capture all the detail and vastness of this desolate landscape that surrounds our model. Lens range between 17-50mm\, but it’s up to you really. Tripod for landscape enthusiasts\, but handheld works too.Feel free to bring your own soft filters like Pro Mist or Cinebloom etc\, but we also have them on hand for you to try. We will also provide some speedlights for Nikon\, Canon and Sony. \n\n\n\nWHERE:New Forest\, Hampshire – fairly close to Southampton. The precise location will be revealed once you have booked\, and there is a train station right next to where we’ll be. \n\n\n\nWANT TO STAY OVERNIGHT?We realise travel to the New Forest and back in one day can be a lot\, so we recommend staying overnight at the Beaulieu Hotel for around £120 per night\, and it’s right next to a train station. This gives you the opportunity to explore the area at leisure and capture more of the ponies the next day. Please get in touch if you need more info on this trip. \n\n\n\nTICKETS:£95. Only 6 spaces for this one so hurry up and book! We have a 2 bookings minimum for going ahead with the event. See our FAQ page for more info. \n\n\n\nCONTACT / RSVP:Grete on 07885899908 grete@ghjstudio.com for any questionsIan on ‭07775 933371‬ \n\n\n\nFUTURE EVENTS:Sign up to my NEWSLETTER to get notified about future GHJ EXPLORE workshops\, photo walks and photo trips around the UK and abroad.
